How to spring clean the easy way, with this simple Spring Cleaning Checklist of Must-Dos.
With the beautiful spring weather arriving, use this time-saving Spring-Cleaning checklist of what truly needs to be done to get the job done FAST!
Spring is officially here! Spring is time for renewal and freshness. Which is why “Spring Cleaning” is a real thing.
With the weather warmer and the flower’s blooming, it’s time to send all that winter grime a packin’!
The most effective way to do it, is to do it. โ Amelia Earhart
Here is my checklist that shows just how to tackle spring cleaning without spending ALL of your time doing it.
My Spring Cleaning Checklist is mostly all the Must-Do’s to keep your house in shape.
Just like we need annual health check-ups, our humble abodes need an annual spring cleaning.
Spring Cleaning Cheat Sheet Checklist
Use this spring cleaning guide to keep your home in ship-shape without losing your sanity! These spring cleaning must-dos emphasize what you NEEDs to be done to your home every spring season.
Home Safety
Every year, when we switch to daylight savings time, you should check all of your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Go ahead and replace the batteries.
Also, be sure to check their expiration dates. Many people have switched over to smart home detectors that give cool voice alerts.
If you don’t have smoke detectors in your home, GET THEM NOW.
Establish a family emergency plan of where to meet in case of an emergency. We have a tree in our front yard that is our meeting place and it is out of the way of our driveway.
Discuss with everyone in your family where to meet and the best escape routes. Practice this plan with your family.
Lighting
Go through your entire home and clean the lighting.
Clean all light-bulbs, globes, pendants, and chandeliers.
Also, take a lint roller to all lampshades.
Upholstered Furniture & Rugs
Luckily, we have a washable sofa from IKEA, which I adore.
The thing is, I didn’t realize just how gross our furniture could get until I bought a white washable sofa.
I would have NEVER bought a white sofa if it wasn’t washable.
If you do not have a washable sofa, it’s TIME to clean it!
If you have microfiber furniture, then spraying it with rubbing alcohol and giving it a little scrub, should remove most of the stains and disinfect it.
Be sure to check the tags if you are unsure how to clean your upholstered furniture.
This goes for rugs, curtains, and throw pillows as well.
Most tags have codes on them, letting you know what cleaning method is safe to use.
W: stands for water-based. Lets’s hope your tag has a “W” because it is the easiest to clean. This means you can use a shampooer or any water-based foaming upholstery cleaner.
S: stands for solvents that are DRY CLEAN ONLY.
W/S: stands for water and solvent-based. Meaning you can use either of the above options.
X: means you can only clean it with a vacuum.
Appliances
To keep all of your appliances running smoothly, you should thoroughly clean them every spring.
Wipe clean all of your small appliances like your toaster, can opener, and coffee-maker. Be sure to empty the crumb tray in your toaster.
Wipe clean the barrel of your washer and all the little compartments.
If you have a small vacuum attachment, use it to thoroughly clean the lint trap in your dryer.
Don’t forget to clean under and behind your washer and dryer as well.

If you have a self-cleaning oven, put it to use! Don’t forget to pull out your stove and clean the crumbs that have accumulated under it over the past year.
Clean the inside and outside of your refrigerator, remembering those coils in the back that get covered in dust.
Cleaning Hack: To keep your refrigerator shelf clean, apply Press’n Seal plastic wrap on them. Any time there is a spill just remove it, and replace it. Easy-Peasy ๐
Medicine Cabinet
It’s time to go through your medicine cabinet. Completely clean it out, and wipe it down.
Then go through everything thoroughly, before putting it back. Check expiration dates and if it’s expired, toss it.
Some nutritional supplements don’t have expiration dates, if you can’t remember when you bought it, then get rid of it to be safe.
Also, many toiletry items such as makeup shouldn’t be kept longer than a year. Remember when it doubt, throw it out!
Closets
It’s time to put away those bulky winter clothes. Not only do you need to store your gloves and coats away, but it’s also time to declutter your closet.
Before spending a ton of money on a new spring wardrobe, go through your closet to see what you have.
Here is a detailed guide on how to Declutter and Downsize Your Wardrobe.
Bedrooms
Hopefully, your bedroom is decluttered. If not, then check out these tips on How to DECLUTTER Your Bedroom FAST.
Spring is the perfect time to vacuum and rotate or flip your mattress. Spot clean or wash all your throw pillows (be sure to check the tags).
Declutter and disinfect all your children’s toys. This can easily be done by placing most plastic toys in the dishwasher.
Throw all stuffed animals in the wash. For little toys like legos, use these mesh wash bags, and just toss them in the washer.
Windows
Spring is the perfect time to let the sunshine through your windows.
Clean the inside and OUTSIDE of your windows, including the window sills.
Remove any screens and spray them off with the water hose. If you can’t remove a screen, you can clean it with a lint roller to remove any loose debris.
Clean all the dust off of your window blinds by wrapping a microfiber cloth around a pair of tongs and sliding it across.
Spring Cleaning List Must Do’s: Ventilation
Vacuum and clean all air vents, then use a little car wax on them. It prevents dust from building up.
Don’t forget about that greasy kitchen hood vent filter. If the manufacturer allows, you may be able to just put it in the dishwasher. If not, hot soapy water with baking soda should melt all the grime away.
Then there is the bathroom exhaust fan, that many of us forget about. It can easily be cleaned with a compressed air duster.
Daily Cleaning Checklist
Spring cleaning shouldn’t be too hard if your home is already in decent shape.
If not check out my easy daily cleaning schedule FREE PRINTABLE that my family uses to keep our home clean and tidy.
Giving your home a good thorough cleaning will give you a good fresh feeling.
If you are feeling unmotivated, make sure to have a reward picked out for yourself after all this hard work.

Oh, LAWD my couch could use a good cleaning. I would hate to see that thing under a black light! I love a good Spring cleaning, though! I definitely need to tackle some of the areas on this list!
I love this spring cleaning must do list! It covers everything I thought of (and things I completely forgot about, like lightbulbs!) I’m so inspired and can’t wait to get started. Thanks again.
Wow you had a lot of stuff I completely overlooked like smoke detector batteries and lighting fixtures. I have a blog post planned coming up on spring cleaning as it is Iโd love to link to yours too though! Please let me know if that is okay.
Thanks Nici, I would love to be linked to your post! Can’t wait to read it ๐
Great list I agree most people neglect their sofas. When you vacuum the your sofa weekly it actually gets up all of the dirt and dust. This the sofa will stay cleaner longer. What amazes me is that Iโve used a lot of people neglect to clean the tops of their appliances. Iโve seen the tips of some fridges that have years of dust. Iโm glad you mentioned that you should clean out your medicine cabinet. Itโs the worst thing when you get sick and you go to take something and the medicine is expired. By cleaning it out once a year it prevents you ending up in a situation where you are not properly prepared when you get sick. Great post!
This is an excellent list filled with a bunch of things I never think to clean! With another baby on the way soon Spring cleaning is at the top of my list!! Canโt wait to start these!
