DIY Cleaning hacks everyone should know to save time!

If you are overwhelmed by constantly cleaning your house, then here is my easy house cleaning schedule that will make your house a practically self-cleaning home.

Cleaning Hacks. Weekly Cleaning schedule. Cleaning tips and tricks

Some people truly enjoy cleaning, I am not one of them.

As a home-schooling Mom of three who works from home, I have struggled to keep my house clean while actually living in it.

My time is very limited and I don’t want to spend my whole day inside cleaning.

Having a tidy home is something I enjoy, but I had to come up with a system of DIY cleaning hacks for the home that makes life so much easier.

All over Pinterest, you may find some really great cleaning schedule printables; however, some of them are overwhelming.

How To Keep Your Home Clean Schedule

My easy cleaning schedule is the BEST cleaning schedule for working Moms and anyone else who has limited time.

Following this cleaning schedule has made it possible for me to have more time because I’m no longer cleaning my house ALL DAY LONG (and getting nothing done).

Also, by using my cleaning must-haves, I have cut down my cleaning time in half.

My home is now an open door to guests and I never have to tell friends or family that they can’t stop by for my fear of them judging my untidy home.

DIY Cleaning Hacks Everyone Should Know

The first step to getting a practically self-cleaning home, is to DECLUTTER. You must remove all of that clutter just sitting around, or you will spend hours every day cleaning it.

The room in my home that had most of the clutter was my bedroom because it was the catch-all room to make all of the other rooms look clean.

Recently, I purged my bedroom and it now is a relaxing space that I love. I did it all in one day, and here are the steps that I used.

Not only do you need to declutter your home, but you should declutter and downsize your wardrobe. It will free up so much space, and give you less laundry.

After decluttering my closet, I now have a wardrobe of clothing that I enjoy wearing and I know where EVERYTHING is.

Organization is the key to having a practically self-cleaning home. Once everything has its place, your home will be easier to clean.

If you can learn to organize based on the way you live in your home, then you’ll be on your way to a tidier home.

Benefits of Sharing Household Chores

If you have children, then it’s time to implement a chore chart.

Chores are essential in building a strong work ethic and teaching children responsibility. Studies have proven that children who have daily chores will grow up to be more successful.

My children have a list of daily chores that they must complete every day. They spend around 15 minutes a day doing small tasks that make a huge difference.

Sharing household responsibilities can bring families closer.

Also, when EVERYONE pitches in to help with the cleaning, they tend to make fewer messes.

Cleaning Must-Haves

Magic Erasers can be your best friend. They can do some amazing things.

You can use them to clean your stove-top, mirrors, microwave, baseboards, and appliances for the perfect shine. They truly are magic!

There is even a little trick of cutting off a tip of a magic eraser and dropping it into your toilet for an overnight clean. It dissolves overnight and your toilet ring is gone.

Clorox wipes and ToiletWand are great disinfecting cleaning tools that help me fly through my chores.

Once a week, use a fresh toilet wand refill for the bathroom sink, tub/shower, then use it for the toilet and dispose of it.

Take a Clorox wipe to clean the bathroom counters then wipe off the toilet wand handle.

Seriously, within 2-4 minutes your bathroom is sanitized.

Micro-fiber cloths are a must for dusting your home. They attract dust instead of spreading it around. There are even these awesome little Dust Slippers that I wear around my house when I am cleaning.

Yes, they may look silly, but they are working while I walk. Can’t complain about that!

Air purifiers are amazing at cleaning out all that nasty dust in the air.

If you run one of these daily, then you WILL cut your dusting chores in half. For awesome tips to have an almost DUST-FREE house, click here.

Doormats are needed on the inside and outside of every entry door to your home.

Also, make a rule of no shoes in the house. Keeping the dirt out of your home in the first place is the key to a cleaner home.

Have a storage basket in your most-used rooms like the family room and kitchen, for all the things that don’t belong.

My kids bring toys, school work, art supplies, and more to these rooms.

It’s easier to just put everything into the basket and then ask them to put their belongings back into their rooms.

Line your refrigerator shelves with clear plastic wrap.

Anytime there is a spill, just pull up the wrap and replace it. It will keep your refrigerator always looking clean.

Easy House Cleaning Schedule

Now it’s time to go through my quick and easy cleaning schedule. I have a daily cleaning schedule that doesn’t take that much time.

Also, my children help out with daily tasks such as the dishwasher and laundry. Then each day of the week I focus on a certain chore.

By spreading out the chores in daily and weekly tasks, I spend less time cleaning and actually keep my house tidy.

Daily Cleaning Checklist

  • Make beds every morning right when you get up. It’s not hard, just pull the sheets tight and pull up the comforter. Only takes a minute and makes your room look instantly tidy.
  • Start a load of laundry. I usually start a load before I start my coffee. This load of laundry has to be dried and put away at some point in the day.
  • Load/Unload the dishwasher. Try to make it a habit of keeping the dishwasher unloaded so you can put dirty dishes in, instead of letting them pile up in the sink.
  • Wipe off kitchen counters, sink, stove-top and table. My kitchen is the most used room in the house. Only takes minutes to wipe everything clean, then it looks great!
  • Have a basket handy to do a quick pick-up of anything that doesn’t belong in the living/family room.

Weekly Cleaning Schedule

  • MONDAY: Dust/Sweep/Vacuum/Mop
  • TUESDAY: Clean Bathrooms
  • WEDNESDAY: Wipe down cabinets/walls/baseboards
  • THURSDAY: Sweep/Vacuum/Mop
  • FRIDAY: Declutter and tidy bedrooms/ wash the bedding

These are great tips! I wholeheartedly agree, decluttering regularly makes a huge difference in the overall cleanliness of our home. Another one of my favorite cleaning tricks is keeping up with routine professional carpet cleanings. Since we have carpet all over our home, making sure it looks and smells clean helps so much.

I really want to follow a good cleaning schedule, but I'm such a scattered mess. Like, I struggle with the day-to-day/week-to-week aspect. I'm going to give your schedule a try though and let you know how it goes! Thanks for sharing.
