A Gentle Spring Reset: How to Get Your Home (and Yourself) Back on Track

A gentle spring reset for March and April to help you bring back calm and joy to your home and mind.

Use this simple spring reset 3-step method to get some clarity.

Gently Spring Reset

I think the world feels chaotic right now to many people.

One thing we can do to help our nervous systems is to do a gentle reset of our homes and ourselves.

I want you to know that if you feel like your home is chaotic or you feel behind in life, you are not alone.

Many of us feel that way right now, with everything going on around us.

If you keep putting things off, please know you are not lazy.

So many of us are putting things off. It’s because we are tired.

We are overstimulated and probably carrying a whole lot more than people actually see.

I know when my mind is full, my home usually follows.

When that happened in the past, I used to shame myself.

I am actively working on never shaming myself, especially for the normal things like laundry and dishes piling up.

I am reading a really insightful book called “The Unshaming Way” that is helping me be more gentle to myself.

One thing I have learned is that shame doesn’t create change, it creates heaviness.

Heaviness is the thing that I think is causing all the chaos to begin with.

So this gentle spring reset is not about fixing yourself and your home, it’s about SUPPORTING yourself.

Why We Tend To Struggle To “Get It Together”

If your home feels completely out of control right now, I completely understand.

I’ve been there.

I actually wrote a whole post about how to get motivated to clean when you’re overwhelmed by the mess, because sometimes the hardest part is simply knowing where to begin.

So I have noticed with myself and with my friends that we tend to struggle with changing habits, whether that be for ourselves or our homes.

I think many of us wait for the motivation or the time.

Or we seem to think we must do it all at once, which is very overwhelming.

I think what we actually all need is clarity, motivation, and a little encouragement.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed by clutter, I go back to a few decluttering quotes that remind me why I’m doing this in the first place.

It’s just something I like to do because I love motivational quotes!

They help me reset my thoughts before I even touch my home.

And now, I want to do the same for you.

I want to give you a little boost of motivation and encouragement to start your own gentle spring reset.

So for this gentle spring reset, I am asking you to choose just three small shifts for this month.

Just three.

Not 5-10 new routines.

Not a total home makeover

Just three simple, manageable changes that will start to make your home and your life feel a little lighter.

That’s your spring reset.

My “Three Shift” Method For A Gentle Reset

Okay, now let’s pick your reset. I want you to choose 3 things.

Grab a pen, paper or use your notes app and choose:

  • One habit that supports your home
  • One habit that supports your body
  • One habit that supports your mind

Here are some ideas, not what you must choose, just inspiration:

For Your Home

For Your Body

  • Go on a 20-minute walk at least three times a week
  • Stretch while your coffee brews or try Chinese Medicine morning movements
  • Swap one sugary snack for something nourishing
  • Try one new workout or wellness class

For Your Mind

  • Don’t check your phone first thing in the morning
  • Read before bed instead of scrolling (check out my free reading challenge)
  • Unfollow accounts that give you stress, including friends and family
  • Plan a coffee date with a friend
  • Write three things you’re grateful for daily (grab my free gratitude journal)

Pick one from each category.

That’s your March reset.

How to Actually Follow Through (Without Burning Out)

Most internet challenges and resets fall apart because they don’t fit in with our daily lives.

Here’s what works better:

1. Write Down What You Want This Month

If you have ever watched the movie “The Notebook”, think of Noah when he asks Allie, “What do you want?”

Not what your family wants.

Not what social media says.

Not what your trendy neighbor is doing.

What do you want?

Do you want more calm?

Or maybe you want a cleaner kitchen?

Maybe you want more energy?

Or…more joy?

Write things that would genuinely make your life feel lighter.

Let yourself want better for yourself.

2. Build Your Days Around What Matters to You

I know what it’s like to have an endless to-do list.

In the morning, ask yourself, “What would make today feel like progress for me?”

Then choose 2-3 important small tasks.

When those three are done, the day counts.

3. Create One Small Daily Anchor

We have all experienced the downfall of when motivation fades.

An anchor will keep you steady.

An anchor could be:

  • Making your bed
  • A 10-minute evening tidy
  • A short gratitude practice

Creating an anchor starts a rhythm that helps create a healthy habit

If You Feel Behind Right Now

I need you to hear this because I wish someone had said it to me over a decade ago.

You are not failing at life because your laundry isn’t folded.

You are absolutely not irresponsible because you’ve lost your routine.

You’re human.

We are living in a very fast-paced world, and it’s hard to keep up while also slowing down to enjoy it.

So sometimes we drift.

The beautiful thing about drifting?

You can gently steer back.

Just remember, you can’t reset with shame.

But you can reset with care.

So, do something today that cares for you!

Open the windows.

Clear one surface.

Go for a walk.

Drink water.

Try again tomorrow.

One small shift is all you need to start this gentle spring reset.

Let me know in the comments what you are doing to reset this spring.
